A bit of research can go a long way.
Red Flags
Job Seekers Red Flags to look for:
- If it seems too good to be true, it probably is: money up front, unusually high pay or promises before you ever start work may be signs of a scam.
- Don’t share any information like Social Security Number or Birth Date until you meet and confirm the business is legitimate.
- The business should have a physical location, meeting at a home is not appropriate. Depending on the Job, a coffee shop could be ok or a Red Flag.
- Always research the company and location. Trust your gut if you feel like the area is unsafe drive away.
- Give Family or Friends the time and location of any Job interview or go with a friend and have them wait in the car.
Safety Protocol
Gig Seekers tips to follow: the Buddy System is a MUST
Gig seekers must be extra alert as most encounters are with strangers at an unfamiliar location like a home. Gig seekers must use the buddy system at all times, you will see this repeated often.
- Gig seekers should always go to the home or office with a friend.
- Gig Seekers always let people know the location
- Conduct your meeting During the day if possible, stay out front, trust your gut, always have a friend
- Gig Seekers Never enter an unfamiliar dwelling unless it’s absolutely necessary, only if you feel you must complete the task. Example Moving Furniture etc. Never go alone.
- Don’t get out of the car if you feel the area is unsafe and or high crime area.
- Don’t accept a ride or a pickup from the Gig Job Poster.
